FAQs
How can I start taking care of my skin?

The skin around the eyes and neck usually shows signs of aging first. The skin is made up of collagen and connective tissues to give the skin its elasticity and tightness. If proper care is not taken the skin will sag and wrinkle.

The basics of any skin care regimen will include cleansing, toning, moisturizing, and at times, the use of a facial scrub is recommended.

Is it important to use sun block protection every day?

Yes. Sun block is very important and without it, you may develop skin Hyperpigmentation (a condition in which patches of skin become darker in color), premature aging and environmental damage. We recommend using sunblock protection everyday, as well as during the winter time.

Why is it good to exfoliate my skin regularly?

Exfoliation helps to speed up the process of skin flaking and shedding by removing dead skin cells. If these are not removed, they can clog the sebaceous pores, leading to superficial spots or blackheads. You can exfoliate any area of the body; but when exfoliating your face; make sure you use products that are designed for your face.

How can I protect my skin during winter?

We all know that winter months and cold weather can be harsh on your skin making you feel dry, flaky, itchy and older looking. What your skin needs is moisture to stay hydrated and healthy. To avoid feeling dry, stop using harsh cleansers. Instead, use a cleansing milk which will help your skin retain moisture. Drink water regularly throughout the day and remember that is important to lock in moisture with a good moisturizing cream, lotion or gel.

How do I control my oily skin?

I am sure you have heard before that oilier skin types age more beautifully and develop less fine lines and wrinkles. The problem is how to control shine, over sized pores, pimples and whiteheads right?

So, to keep your skin looking beautiful and healthy, it is important that you cleanse your skin twice a day - everyday. After cleansing, use an antibacterial or antiseptic toner or gel to remove bacteria which will help prevent pimples and blackheads. To minimize pores, apply a hydroxyl acid based lotion daily. Although Oily skin types usually do not need a moisturizer, if you have combination skin or dry patches look for an aloe-based lotion or gel that will help keep your skin hydrated without making it look shiny. Finally, to improve texture and clear pores, exfoliate once a week.

Is acne caused by poor hygiene?

No. Acne is a skin condition that occurs due to the over production of oil by the sebaceous glands. There are 4 major factors responsible for causing acne: overacting oil glands, blockage of the skin pores, normal skin bacteria and inflammation. These factors act together to block oil ducts and this is what causes pimples, whiteheads and blackheads. There are parts of the body that are more susceptible to acne like the face, the back, and the chest.

How can I prevent premature aging?

There is no way you can stop or slow down your body's aging process; but what you can do to prevent signs of premature aging, is to protect your skin from the sun and other environmental factors that harm your skin. Use the right products according to your skin type. This can help restore your skin giving you a smoother and refreshed appearance making you feel young and glowing!!

How often should I get a facial?

Well...it all depends on your skin type. If you have oily skin with pimples, blackheads or whiteheads, it is recommended to have facials every week or every two weeks until your skin has improved. Maintenance facials can be done once a month. However, if your skin is dry, a hydration treatment would be good every 4 to 6 weeks to keep your skin moisturized, especially during winter time and if you have a normal skin type a facial treatment to maintain your skin clean and healthy once a month or every two months is a good schedule.

What are Alpha - Hydroxy Acids (AHA'S) and when are they recommended?

Alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA) are naturally occurring acids, derived from sugars such as Glycolic Acid (Sugar Cane), Lactic Acid (Milk), Tartaric Acid (Grapes), Citric Acid (Citrus Fruits), Malic Acid (Apples), and Mandelic Acid (Bitter Almonds).

They are usually known to help accelerate cellular renewal, remove dead cells from the skin, even out and brighten complexion, increase skin's hydration, bleach skin discolorations and stimulate collagen production. AHA products for use at home should never contain over 10 % alpha hydroxy acid and sunblock protection is needed when going outside.
AHA'S are recommended for all skin types; however, sensitive skin types should test each product carefully before including it as part of your skin care regimen.

How often should I change my skin care regimen?

Seasons change, and as such the needs of your skin. We all know that seasons change about every 3 moths and every so often you should ask yourself, if the products that you are using continue to keep your skin feeling good. During humid and hot months, those super moisturizers you used during cold moths may suddenly feel heavy and greasy and you can't expect your summer oil free products to keep your skin hydrated during winter. It doesn't mean you have to change the brand you like, but changing a moisturizer or a cleanser from your daily skin care regimen will make the difference.
